“Meet & Greet” Event at MTN Uganda Headquarters

After the official opening ceremony of the MTN Naguru Social Sports Academy at Naguru Katali Primary School on June 29th, on June 30th we had the opportunity of visiting MTN Uganda’s headquarters to present the project and meet the team. MTN Uganda is a leading telecoms company in Uganda with a primary objective of carrying on the business of a national operator of a telecommunications network. The company is also our Honorary Partner in Uganda. Through the Group’s strong Corporate Social Responsibility, MTN Uganda complements Ugandan government’s efforts in pertinent areas such as youth empowerment, sports, education, and health, among others.

The objective of this Meet & Greet was to raise project awareness within MTN Uganda employees. The internal event was organised by MTN Uganda staff, who did an excellent job. A small team composed by members of Xcalibur Foundation, Youth Sport Uganda, and Naguru Katali Primary School, attended with 10 girls and boys from the project, who represented the rest of their colleagues. After a delicious breakfast and some interaction time to get to know each other better, the project children were able to participate, together with MTN Uganda’s CEO and some of the company’s employees, in various sporting activities. The children and external teams were also able to meet and engage with the company’s senior management.

In his speech, MTN Uganda’s CEO Wim Vanhelleputte said: “This is a unique project that is in line with the values of our organisation. We are privileged to be able to contribute to the social wellbeing and personal development of vulnerable children and youth. Supporting an educational cause that uses sport as a development tool is in line with our values, goals, and objectives, both as an organisation and as the people who work in this company. We hope that this collaboration with Xcalibur Foundation and Real Madrid Foundation is only the beginning of an exciting journey together.”

On her side, Laura Blanco, Programme Director of Xcalibur Foundation, added: “Whatever dreams we have and whatever we want to be when we grow up, the key will always rely on attending school and completing our studies”.

We hope this event is the first of many encounters with the MTN Uganda community, who alike our teams, flew back in time to play and feel like children once again.
