Kinshasa, 5 October 2026. On Saturday, 3 October, a new basketball court was inaugurated at Kwilu 1 and Kwilu 2 primary schools in Kinshasa. Developed as part of Basket4All, the new facility will benefit 100 girls and boys aged between 6 and 11. The court was made possible thanks to a donation from Rawji Foundation and OL CONSULT SARL, which, together with Xcalibur Foundation, Zentro Basket Madrid, Alimo and Momo, support a project that has been using basketball and the values of sport since 2023 as tools to contribute to the development of Congolese youth.
The inauguration of this new space marks a further step in the evolution of Basket4All and opens up a new social dimension for the project, extending its impact beyond the sports training of its participants. The young people who are part of the Basket4All Academy of Excellence have received training to share with younger children the knowledge and values they have acquired throughout their own development within the programme.
Supported by Nelly, the project’s social worker, these young people will take part in activities with pupils from Kwilu 1 and Kwilu 2, two schools that share the same educational site and now also have a common space where children can play sport, learn and build relationships. Through these activities, Basket4All aims to foster values such as respect, teamwork, discipline, responsibility and positive coexistence from an early age.
‘Since we launched Basket4All in 2023, we have viewed basketball not only as a sport, but also as a tool capable of creating opportunities and passing on values. With this court, we are taking another step forward: the young people who have grown within the project will now be able to share what they have learned with other children and become role models within their own community’, said Javier Lezcano, Vice President of Xcalibur Foundation, during his remarks.
The creation of this court was made possible thanks to the support of the Rawji Foundation and OL CONSULT SARL, enabling the schools to be provided with a sustainable facility and offering the children a space that encourages sporting activities, learning and personal development.
‘Education goes beyond the classroom. Sport offers young people another space in which to build self-confidence, challenge themselves and develop qualities that will stay with them throughout their lives. At Rawji Foundation, our mission is to empower Congolese youth to reach their full potential and equip them with the skills they need to become the leaders of tomorrow. Sport is an important part of that journey, complementing education by fostering resilience, teamwork and self-confidence. That is why we are proud to support Basket4All’, said Dahlia Rawji, member of the Board of Rawji Foundation
‘Sport is a powerful tool for education and social cohesion. By supporting the construction of this court, OL CONSULT SARL wanted to contribute to a practical, sustainable project driven by the young people themselves. We are proud to support Basket4All in this new phase’, said Mr Chekinah Olivier, founder of OL CONSULT SARL
The initiative also benefits from the continued commitment of Xcalibur Smart Mapping, whose team in the Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to support Basket4All and the social impact generated by the programme in the communities where it operates.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Proust Swedi, Head of the Education Unit of the Ndjili Subdivision; representatives of the education authorities; Cunégonde, Headteacher of EP 1 Kwilu, and Franchiska Milami, Headteacher of EP 2 Kwilu; as well as representatives of the parents’ association, OL CONSULT SARL and Rawji Foundation. The Embassy of Spain in the Democratic Republic of the Congo was also represented by María de los Ángeles García de Lara, Spain’s Ambassador to the country.
Following the inauguration and welcome ceremony, Basket4All participants performed a short theatre piece highlighting the importance of equality and inclusion. Led by the girls and boys taking part in the programme, the activity anticipated the active role they will take on during this new phase of the project, supporting pupils from Kwilu 1 and Kwilu 2 through sport.
The inauguration of the new court therefore marks a new stage for Basket4All, in which the young people trained within the programme are beginning to take an active role in their community.
It is a step that reinforces the project’s commitment to using sport not only as a tool for learning, but also as a way to create role models, strengthen community ties and open up new opportunities for future generations.
